LATE MARY SINHA SARDAR – brief history
Late Mary Sinha Sardar, The Founder of Isabella School, Salugara was born in Mananthuruth, a tiny village in Kerala on 25th December (Christmas day) in the year 1941, She was the youngest of 3 sisters and 1 brother. She was very bright in academics & extracurricular activities from the very beginning. For her further studies, she was admitted in Jesus & Mary convent, Poona, by her parents. She worked as a social worker with the congregation of Missionary of Christ Jesus in Mumbai. In 1967, she came with a team of missionaries in the Dooars region during the Jalpaiguri flood. She had immense belief in God and service to mankind. She took great care of many people affected by the flood. She got married in 1968. She has two children. She taught her children to love and respect all language, culture & religion. She was a linguist. She knew Malayalam (her mother tongue), Tamil, English, Nepali, Hindi, Bengali and French.
Isabella School, Salugara, was founded by her on 12th January, 1978. It was a small & humble beginning with 7 students on the role. She named her school after a Spanish missionary Sr. Isabel Martin who was her mentor & guide. She loved children & took special care to upkeep the standard of the school. “Dedicated service with love” is what the founder always believed & never grew tired of it. Her students & staff simply loved her for her commitment & her leadership qualities. The founder was a mother figure not only to her children & staff but also to the society. She helped many people in distress. Many children taught in her School have become successful in life. She educated many financially poor children free of cost. She was diagnosed of cancer and after a long struggle she passed away on 24th February, 2006. Birth and death are a part of life, but what remains is the work that you do in this earthly life. She remains an inspiration to our school family for what she was, an educator & above all a good human being.
